Harry Potter’s wand 006
£40.00
Harry’s wand is made from Indian Rosewood which is exactly what it should be.
The wood is harder than English oak. Initially lathe turned and the hand carved using sharp chisels and a little help from a Dremel (an electric carving and polishing tool). It was then finished with light sand paper and sealed. Then beeswax was applied to provide a light sheen allowing the natural wood grain to be seen. No wood stain was applied.
The words that follow are from ‘Harry Potter – The Wand Collection’ a definitive list of photos of the original was used from the third film on.
Harry Petter. famous as “The Boy Who Lived,” acquires his first wand at the age of eleven during his first trip to Diagon Alley to buy school supplies before attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft.
The wand that chooses Harry in Ollivander‘s shop is said to be of holly wood with a phoenix feather core.
That wand prop seen in the first two films is smooth and unassuming in its design.
In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, director Alfonso Cuaron offered the actors an opportunity to upgrade their wands. Actor Daniel Radcliffe chose a new wand prop with a handle retaining its outer bark, suggesting that it has been whittled from a single root or branch. It is crafted from Indian rosewood, which has a deep red color. The ‘bark’ seen on Harry‘s wand was sculpted, but the carving was done on real wood. The top of the wand was cast from a tree burr. “This organic design makes it seem more mysterious and magical,” says art director Hattie Storey.
