The wood for the wand is not specified in the books or the film literature so I used a few types of reasonably hard wood.
For all the wands being added from now on I am using a book (Harry Potter The Wand Collection) which uses photographs of the original models actually used to create the resin wands used in the films. I will endeavour to make the wands as close as possible to those shown in the book.
Transfiguration professor and head of Gryffindor house, Minerva McGonagall is a know Animagus, a person who can turn into an animal at will. She’s first seen transforming from her tabby cat form into her human form in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
Dame Maggie Smith sadly died in September 2024 aged 89. “The magic never goes” she says, “I remember walking into the Great Hall for the first time and not believing it, it was so amazing”.
In preparation for her wand battle with Severus Snape in Harry Potter and the deathly hallows – part two, she and Snape actor Alan Rickman had several rehearsals. “We used our wands almost like foils” she said in referencing the sensitive weapons used in the sport of fencing.
Her wand is sleek, black-tipped and has a Victorian-style curvature topped with an amber stone.
